hem is just what I should do!"Xiao Yu smiled lightly as he said this to Liu Bao.Hearing Xiao Yu's words, Wei Jun immediately understood his intention; even he had noticed Liu family’s behavior earlier...Chapter 472: Li Family from the Treasure Island
Jin Xianglin now only trusted Xiao Yu's medical skills. Although there was a possibility that he might have already died before Xiao Yu arrived, even so, he did not want to entrust his life to a doctor whom he didn't trust.
Xiao Yu and the others had barely arrived when a man in his forties ran in with a stack of documents.
When they saw this person arrive, Xiao Jingru and the others headed towards the airport. An hour later, their plane landed at Taipei's Beitou Airport.
Beitou is where Taiwan's "central government" is located; it's a center of economic, cultural, political, and commercial activities in the region. With nearly three million people, Beitou has the densest population on the island.
This place can be considered the stage for Taiwan’s modern history, embodying the full essence of Taiwanese culture and humanistic landscapes, making it the core city of Taiwan and a hub of industry and commerce. Many world-renowned companies have branches here, including Jin Xianglin's company which has its largest East Asia branch in Taipei.
After Xiao Yu and his team got off the plane, there was already a car waiting for them at the airport. These cars belong to Jin Xianglin’s company. Before they arrived in Taiwan, they had notified the local office, so the branch's vehicles were here early on to await their arrival.
The car sped towards the central district of Taipei with Xiao Yu and his team inside. After about an hour of driving, the car stopped at a private hospital called Li Family Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.
"This Li Family Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is the best private hospital in all of Taipei. The director here is a famous master of traditional Chinese medicine throughout Taiwan! Since General Manager Jin requested to see a traditional Chinese doctor, we brought him here!"
After getting off the car, the Taiwan branch employee who had led Xiao Yu and his team introduced them to the hospital as they walked in.
Xiao Yu looked at this hospital. Although it wasn't large, considering its location in a place where land is truly precious, having such space was already impressive.
As soon as one entered the main gate of the hospital, they would see a statue facing them. The statue depicted an elderly man in ancient attire with a beard; he held a bamboo scroll in one hand and had the other hand behind his back, gazing far into the distance.
The statue was placed on a stone pedestal, upon which were inscribed four large characters in traditional Chinese: "Divine Doctor Hua Tuo." Although the script was in traditional Chinese characters, Xiao Yu’s familiarity with them was no less than that of any expert. Many ancient medical texts passed down through generations were written in traditional characters, and understanding these texts required a thorough knowledge of them.
Passing around the statue, there was a large fountain surrounded by a water pool where golden carp swam back and forth leisurely. On either side of the fountain lay a garden-like plaza.
Xiao Yu couldn't help but marvel at how comfortable the medical environment here truly was; even in major hospitals within China, courtyards were often filled with parked cars rather than greenery.
Behind this garden stood two buildings. Since it was a private hospital, the building area wasn’t particularly large. One of these buildings was a three-story structure while the other was a six-floor apartment-style building. A giant sign reading "Outpatient Building" hung atop the former, and the latter served as an inpatient ward.
The staff member led Xiao Yu and Xiao Jingru directly towards the inpatient ward where Jin Xianglin currently resided.
Despite its small size, this hospital was renowned throughout the island for being established by a famous traditional Chinese medicine family. Had Jin Xianglin’s company not had some level of fame, given how busy the hospital's director was, it would have been unlikely he could find time to treat him.
The director never expected that in his busiest moments, he would take time out just to say there were dangers involved before the patient asked him to stop treating and requested a doctor from mainland China. This made him feel slightly annoyed, and initially, he was inclined to leave Jin Xianglin untreated.
However, as time passed and Jin Xianglin fell into a coma with his life hanging by a thread, the director couldn't bring himself to ignore this suffering patient since he was a healer. Therefore, he took out golden acupuncture needles and inserted them into Jin Xianglin’s body.
"Director! Director! A patient outside has dislocated both arms, but our orthopedics department can’t manage it. Dr. Wang asks if you could come take a look!"
Right after the director had finished inserting needles in Jin Xianglin, a nurse rushed into the room with this news.
"Hm" The director paused upon hearing this, but then he glanced back at Jin Xianglin who was unconscious on the bed and decided to attend to the new patient. Turning back towards the nurse, he instructed her: "Tell that patient to come in! I will have a look."
"Certainly!" Upon receiving these instructions from the director, the nurse quickly responded before turning around and rushing out of the room towards the outpatient building.
"Keep an eye on him and don't let anyone near the golden needle!" After saying this to Jin Xianglin's bodyguards and two other doctors, the president left.
The head of this traditional Chinese medicine family is President Li, whose name is ZiXiong. He is 55 years old this year. When he learned all their family’s secret medical skills, he took over the whole Li family, while his father lives in a villa in the suburbs and does not handle hospital affairs anymore.
After leaving Jin Xianglin's ward, President Li followed the corridor to a doctor's office.
A short while later, that nurse brought two young men in their thirties here. One of them had his arms hanging down and beads of sweat on his forehead; he would twitch from time to time, obviously enduring great pain.
"Where are the X-rays" President Li glanced at these two people and asked casually.
Upon hearing President Li's words, the other young man reached into a bag and took out an X-ray film. He handed it over to President Li: "Doctor, this is the X-ray taken just now!"
President Li nodded and accepted the film from this person’s hand, holding it up against the light for a look. After a moment, his brows furrowed tightly; he could see something unnatural where this person's bone had dislocated, which left him with an ominous premonition.
"Sit over there!" President Li said to the man whose arm was dislocated.
This patient sat on a chair in front of him as instructed. Then President Li stood up and walked behind this patient, feeling his shoulder where the injury had occurred.
Whenever President Li's hand touched the joint at this patient’s shoulder, the patient couldn't help but twitch several times. Following along with the patient’s shoulder, President Li gradually felt downwards; however, the more he did so, the worse his face looked.
A short while later, President Li removed his hand from the patient's arm, furrowed his brows tightly, and said in a heavy tone: "Young man, please forgive this old man for being unable to help with your injured arm."
President Li didn't just feel incapable of helping with this person’s injury. Even if he had a solution, he wouldn’t treat it; obviously, the injuries on this person were from martial arts techniques that ordinary people couldn't inflict such wounds. If President Li treated him and the one who injured him came looking for trouble, what could he do then
Therefore, don't say he can't treat it; even if he could, he wouldn't do so. This isn’t an issue of medical ethics—no matter how good his ethics are, he won't joke around with the lives of his loved ones.
The inheritance of guoshu in Treasure Island is more complete than on the mainland, as they didn't go through the great calamity; many families that fled to Treasure Island back then have preserved their traditions completely. Therefore, while these guoshu families remain mysterious, these traditional Chinese medicine families are also somewhat aware of them. Hence, upon seeing this person's injuries, Li Zixiong decided not to intervene.
If the treatment doesn't work out, there won’t be any consequences; but if it does succeed and they walk away, their roots still lie here in Li Family territory. How could they leave Moreover, those injured by special techniques have an unwritten rule in the Chinese medicine community: if you treat them, you take responsibility.
This is why even though Xiao Yu used bengjin cuogu to injure someone, none of the renowned Chinese doctors treated them because they were afraid Xiao Yu would cause trouble. The mainland and Treasure Island are part of one tradition, so these traditional Chinese medicine and guoshu circles still follow ancient customs without change.
After hearing Li Zixiong's words, disappointment appeared on both their faces. They had visited several clinics but none could help his injury; after inquiries, they learned this was the best Chinese medicine hospital in town so they came here, only to find it couldn’t help them either.
The two stood up disappointedly and walked out. Li Zixiong looked at their retreating figures with a sigh of resignation on his face.
Though he was unable to treat this person’s condition, he believed his father might have some methods; after all, back then, he saw his father treat someone injured by special techniques once. However, the situation now differs from that time, so they dared not treat this person's injuries.
Their medical skills may be superb, but their combat ability is far inferior to martial artists, thus none of them wished to deal with this trouble.
"Ouch, sorry, sorry..." Just as Li Zixiong was watching the two leave, he suddenly heard a cry and an apology outside.
Hearing this, Li Zixiong hurried out. Outside, the patient who had just left with his injured arm was sitting on the ground in pain, sweat pouring down his forehead.
His companion clenched both fists, glaring at the woman before him angrily; judging by his expression, if she hadn’t been a woman, he might have attacked her already.
