This attendant led Xiao Yu and his group to a VIP lounge in the middle of the corridor.

After Xiao Yu and his group entered, the attendant left to arrange things outside.

The children and women screamed with delight upon seeing the furnishings inside and began looking around. After entering, Xiao Yu also observed the VIP lounge.

The lounge was completely open-plan, with one side being indoors and the other a patio. Both sides of the walls were adorned with numerous calligraphy pieces and paintings, though they were not ancient masterpieces but rather contemporary works by renowned artists.

Even if Xiao Yu wasn't familiar with these masters, he could tell from the quality of the artworks how accomplished their creators were.

Xiao Yu walked out to the patio. Two tables were placed at the edge of the patio, each filled with fresh fruits. The design of this room was quite thought-provoking; the patios extended far out, making sitting there no less advantageous than being in the front row on the first floor—it might even offer better views.

As for the adjacent rooms, Xiao Yu and his group didn't hear any noise from them. They must be empty since high-ranking officials would generally spend time with their families during the New Year rather than staying here.

The men sat at one table while the women sat at another. The rectangular design of these tables ensured no matter where they sat, their views wouldn't be obstructed in any way.

"Knock knock knock..." Just as Xiao Yu and his group had settled down, someone knocked on the door.

"Come in!" Xiao Yu called out to the attendant. As soon as he finished speaking, several attendants led by the one who had shown them into the lounge entered their room.

"Hello, may I ask, gentlemen, what would you like" After saying this, the staff member took a sheet of paper from another server and handed it to Xiao Yu.

Xiao Yu took the sheet and looked at it. It only listed some beverages with no other items. After looking through it, he passed it to Xiao Yu, as they had to decide what to drink themselves.

Everyone's orders were different, and the children were particularly lively. Each of them ordered two drinks, but these servers not only waited patiently but also recommended several options when it was the children’s turn to order.

After Xiao Yu and his group finished ordering their drinks, the server handed another sheet to Xiao Yu again.

This time it was a menu. Since they hadn't eaten yet, Xiao Yu gave the menu to Wang Junlin's group, suggesting that they order first since, although he was with these people and even considered them close, Wang Junlin’s group were still guests here.

After finishing their orders, Xiao Yu and his companions sat down to chat. The children peeked out from upstairs looking at the ground floor where most people had already settled in by now. Some sports stars and veteran celebrities were seated in the front rows downstairs.

The first-floor front row wasn't bad; it offered tables filled with fresh fruits.

As for the second floor, they couldn't see who was there from where they sat, but they assumed that these would be relatives of some leaders.

In no time, their food and drinks were brought over. Xiao Yu's group had been busy all day, so by this point, everyone was hungry. Thus, they began to eat.

Unlike the others in such an occasion, what Xiao Yu’s group ordered wasn’t just for show; they actually ate it. Even if the food was brought out, no one would touch it if they didn't plan on eating.

Like those sitting at the front rows downstairs, even though the fruits on their tables looked tempting, none of them dared to take a bite because that could affect their image. If they were caught looking unseemly, it might be broadcasted for all 1.3 billion Chinese people to see.

However, Xiao Yu and his companions had no such reservations. They sat down and chatted while eating and drinking, waiting for the program to begin.

The staff member who led Xiao Yu and his companions in quickly took them up to the third floor and left hurriedly after making a phone call. The call was promptly answered, and the staff member whispered a few words before hanging up.

Soon after, a man in his forties came out from backstage, standing at the backstage entrance and looking around constantly. When he spotted the staff member, he quickly approached him.

"Little Zhang, what's the matter Why are you so urgent" The middle-aged man walked up to the staff member with an unsatisfied expression on his face.

The staff member looked left and right before cautiously pulling the middle-aged man aside.

"What is it already I'm busy!" Seeing that his subordinate was dragging him away, the middle-aged man's originally displeased face turned even more gloomy. He said to the staff member in a bad-tempered manner.

This middle-aged man was the deputy director of CCTV’s後勤部 (backstage operations department). During the Spring Festival Gala, his department was always the busiest. Especially now, before the gala started, he had to personally handle many matters to avoid any mistakes later on.

When one of his subordinates called him out while he was busy, he initially didn't want to come out. However, his subordinate said it wasn't just an urgent matter but also a significant one that required his presence, and warned him not to blame no one else when he regretted it.

Despite his reluctance, the middle-aged man had no choice but to make time for this because he couldn’t afford any risks. Despite his displeasure, however, he didn't hide his emotions at all.

Towards a subordinate, if he was angry, there was no need to conceal it, so when the subordinate pulled him towards a corner, he couldn't help but speak up.

"Director, there are too many people here. It's not easy to talk. Follow me!" Hearing the middle-aged man’s irritated voice, the staff member didn’t get angry and whispered into his ear instead.

This middle-aged man, who was originally annoyed, looked at the staff member's careful demeanor and gradually lost his displeasure, thinking to himself, "Maybe this Xiao Zhang really has something going on"

Thinking of this, he followed the staff member to a corner.

When the staff member noticed that no one was paying attention around them, he carefully whispered in the middle-aged man's ear.

"What Are you sure about what you're saying" The middle-aged man looked at the staff member with shock mixed with doubt after hearing him speak.

The staff member saw that the middle-aged man had already believed him, so he did not explain further but nodded firmly instead.

"Alright, alright. If I get any benefits from this, you'll definitely share in them!" The middle-aged man patted the staff member's shoulder after seeing his expression and said.

The staff member grinned smugly upon hearing these words, "Hehe, then I wish Director great success!"

After patting the staff member on the shoulder, the middle-aged man did not say anything more but turned around to walk further into the corridor.

Although it was New Year's Eve tonight, there wasn't a single person resting at the TV station, from the director all the way down to the janitorial staff. Everyone had to work overtime and be on standby at any moment.

The middle-aged man left the staff member and went straight towards an elevator in the corner.

After taking the elevator up to the fifteenth floor, he headed toward a room marked as the Deputy Director's office. Inside this office was a balding man in his fifties wearing gold-rimmed glasses, gesturing animatedly while assigning tasks to two people in their forties, one male and one female.
