"Do you know about my sect's origins" The slovenly daoist asked Xiao Yu.
"I know a little. Are you referring to Jiang Shang's lineage" Hearing the slovenly daoist's question, although Xiao Yu didn't understand why he was asking this, he still thought for a moment before answering.
“Hmm, Grandmaster Jiang is my secular clan’s ancestor, but not the founder of Kunlun!”
"You mean the three from Mortal Immortal World..." Xiao Yu was startled and said after hearing the slovenly daoist's words.
He naturally knew about the Kunlun Sect, which was the first sect in the Daoist world even in the Mortal Immortal World. Initially, Xiao Yu thought that this slovenly daoist was referring to the secular Kunlun. Jiang Shang returned to the mundane world and established a secular Kunlun because he couldn't become an immortal back then. He didn't expect him to be talking about Kunlun in the Mortal Immortal World.
“Uh, you actually know about Mortal Immortal World” Hearing Xiao Yu's words, the slovenly daoist was clearly taken aback. Originally he wanted to tease Xiao Yu a bit, but didn't expect him to be aware of the existence of Mortal Immortal World in the cultivation world. Moreover, from his tone it seemed like he knew who the ancestor of Kunlun in Mortal Immortal World was!
At the same time, he began speculating about Xiao Yu's origins. This Xiao Yu was indeed too mysterious; to possess threads of the Heavenly Dao Network
The slovenly daoist actually didn't know what this Heavenly Dao Network was either. He only found out from a jade slip left by the sect’s founding ancestor, and was instructed to bring any person possessing the threads of the Heavenly Dao Network here as part of an important secret.
"I've heard of it before!" Xiao Yu nodded and said.
“There are relics left behind by three grandmasters over there. Only someone with the Heavenly Dao Network can enter,” After hearing Xiao Yu's words, the slovenly daoist didn't say anything further. Possessing the Heavenly Dao Network, it seemed reasonable for him to know about these things, so he pointed at a cave opposite and spoke to Ye Fei.
Xiao Yu now understood that what the slovenly daoist referred to as the Heavenly Dao Network was actually the mysterious patterns in his consciousness. As for the purpose of those patterns, only by entering the cave could he learn more. Thus, after hearing the slovenly daoist's words, Xiao Yu hesitated briefly before turning and walking into the cave.
Actually, he also wanted to know about the origins of these mysterious patterns. In Zhong Kui’s memories, these mysterious patterns appeared when he traveled across all three realms, acquiring the Judgment Brush in the netherworld, the Register of Wandering Souls in the mortal world, and the Sword for Subduing Demons and Evil in the cultivation realm. However, Zhong Kui didn't know their origins either; even after exploring them for over a thousand years, he had found no information.
He only vaguely sensed that these things were extraordinary, so he hid the mysterious patterns within magical treasures.
This was an opportunity to unravel the mystery of those patterns, which he naturally wouldn't want to miss.
This cave was no different from ordinary caves. Xiao Yu smoothly reached the bottom of the cave without any obstructions, and at the bottom of the cave was a mountain belly where something unknown resided, making the entire cave as bright as day.
The interior of this mountain belly was filled with swirling clouds and mist, within which a grand hall appeared intermittently.
Xiao Yu took a glance and walked towards the hall. When he approached it, the three mysterious artifact symbols in his識海 (sea of awareness) suddenly trembled lightly before flying out to circle around Xiao Yu, drawing intricate patterns as they moved.
"Plop..." After taking another look at the artifacts circling him, Xiao Yu continued walking towards the palace. When he reached the steps leading up to the hall, a light sound was emitted from his surroundings, like a bubble being burst.
However, no matter how he sensed it, there was nothing around him that could be felt, which left Xiao Yu quite puzzled. Nevertheless, he did not stop and continued climbing the stairs towards the palace gate.
"Doughrate Palace!" When Xiao Yu reached the top of the steps and saw the signboard above the palace gate, his heart couldn't help but shudder with surprise. He knew very well about the origins of this Doughrate Palace.
Upon seeing the Doughrate Palace, Xiao Yu's heart secretly shuddered, thinking to himself that these three individuals were indeed connected to it. Back then when that slovenly Taoist asked him about the history of Kunlun, he had already thought of these three individuals. It was because they were actually the founders and ancestors of Kunlun, although later on their sect split into three.
Xiao Yu pushed open the door and entered this Doughrate Palace. Inside, it was empty except for a table in the middle of the room and a jade slip beside it.
This must be what those three sages left behind. He wondered how they were doing now; he had heard that even sages might not have been able to avoid the last heavenly calamity, so he was unsure about their final outcome.
Thinking of this, Xiao Yu picked up the jade slip on the table. He felt a sense that all answers should be within this jade slip.
Xiao Yu sat cross-legged and extended his mind into the jade slip. Suddenly, he felt an explosive sound in his head as massive amounts of information flooded into it.
The jade slip was unlike the one belonging to True Person Blazing Flame; it contained far more information. Xiao Yu didn't know much about the outside world or the level of these sages here, but judging from their descriptions, they seemed similar to immortals in this realm, yet there were some differences. Practitioners at the Great Perfection stage could even move between planets with a great teleportation technique elsewhere, whereas those on Earth had seemingly restricted abilities; while immortal beings could also teleport, it was over much shorter distances.
Xiao Yu sat cross-legged and gradually digested the information within the jade slip. After he finished absorbing all of its contents, he finally stood up from the ground.
At this moment, fear shone in Xiao Yu's eyes. Something that could shock a person like Xiao Yu, who even had Zhong Kui’s memories, must have been quite shocking indeed.
Xiao Yu slowly walked out of the cave; by then it was already dark outside.
"Comrade, how was it" Seeing Xiao Yu emerge from the cave, the scruffy Daoist asked anxiously.
Xiao Yu had entered the mountain cave and stayed inside for an entire day. Waiting outside made him very anxious; after all, his lineage is known as the Guardian Lineage. They have been guarding this mountain cave for several hundred years. Naturally, they would want to know what's inside the cave.
"The Three Saints instructed me not to tell you at present. Once I get the full picture of everything, I will inform you!" After hearing the scruffy Daoist’s question, Xiao Yu thought it over and responded.
It wasn't that he didn’t want to tell the scruffy Daoist; rather, he didn't know how to start explaining. Besides, the matter was too significant. With Zhong Kui's thousand-year-old memories in his possession, he still hadn't figured out what to do about it, let alone a Cultivator at the Breath-Nourishing stage
"Sigh!" Upon hearing Xiao Yu's words, the scruffy Daoist couldn’t help but sigh. To be honest, he had anticipated this outcome. If they could have been told, the Three Ancestors would likely have informed them back then. Furthermore, who dared to ask back then They were merely Breath-Nourishing stage ants, while the Ancestors were esteemed Saints; it was already a blessing for them if the Saints deigned to meet with them once. How could they dare hope for more
Xiao Yu and the scruffy Daoist returned to the square. Apart from those from the family lineage, everyone else had gone to rest. Only those from his family lineage remained in the center of the square, sitting cross-legged and waiting for Xiao Yu’s return.
"Comrades!" As he arrived at the square, Xiao Yu looked at them and couldn’t help but call out softly, feeling warm inside.
"Master Xiao, you're back..." Hearing Xiao Yu's voice, those from his family lineage opened their eyes.
"Comrades, you should all return tomorrow. I have some matters to attend to and need to leave early!" Seeing them awake, Xiao Yu nodded towards them and said.
Upon hearing Xiao Yu’s words, they couldn’t help but nod along. As for what affairs Xiao Yu had, none of them asked; now he was far beyond their league.
"Farewell, comrades!" After talking to those from the family lineage, Xiao Yu turned towards the scruffy Daoist and said.
"I will see you off. The night warding formation has already been activated," the scruffy Daoist told Xiao Yu after hearing his words.
With a wooden sword underfoot, Xiao Yu traversed through the night sky, leaving behind a streak of golden light like a shooting star heading far away. His wooden sword had recovered to its original condition with the nourishment from the mysterious patterns.
Xiao Yu tread on his flying sword and headed towards Zhonghai; he needed something there.
"Sigh!" In mid-flight, Xiao Yu couldn't help but sigh softly. He wasn’t sure how to describe his feelings now. The information he learned in the Kunlun Sect was simply beyond his comprehension. It made him feel that Earth was an enormous enigma.
It turned out that the jade slips left by the Sage of Kunlun contained a shocking secret. According to the jade slip, when the three Sages of Kunlun first became Sages, they discovered that the Mortal World was like a cage, controlled from behind the scenes by the mouthpiece of the Heavenly Dao, Hongjun. Rather than saying that Hongjun is the mouthpiece of the Heavenly Dao, it would be more accurate to say that he is the Heavenly Dao itself. Everything in the Mortal World was under his control.
Every time when the lifeforms in the Mortal World developed and flourished beyond his control, he would instigate a great calamity (quant劫). Each calamity brought almost total destruction to all beings, and the disciples of these Sages suffered severe casualties.
Hence, the three Sages secretly plotted to eliminate Hongjun. For this purpose, they united with all other Sages and, after several eons of preparation, launched a final assault on Hongjun hundreds of years ago. To prevent failure, they left a contingency plan for future generations by stealthily stripping off a thread of the Heavenly Dao's net from their fates, making the Heavenly Dao incomplete. Furthermore, as these three Sages were transformed from the primordial spirit of Pangu, the world’s creator, they also extracted a strand of their primordial spirit and infused it into a magical artifact made with the Heavenly Dao net to mask its aura. They placed these three artifacts in the Three Realms, waiting for later generations to reach a certain cultivation level and use them to fight Hongjun.
What the Sages did not expect was that one person obtained all three artifacts. Before launching their final assault, several people had moved this Palace of Profound Rate (Dousuigong) into secular Kunlun because both Hongjun and these Sages had the weakest control over the secular world. In other words, the secular realm seemed to only touch upon a corner of the Heavenly Dao; they could use infinite magical powers there but it was extremely difficult to use the power of the Heavenly Dao. This was also why they moved the Palace of Profound Rate into the secular world.
It can be said that, during the time of the Deification War (Fengshen), they had already begun their preparations, which is why they did not let Jiang Shang become a deity but instead established Kunlun in the secular realm for him.
Furthermore, when the three Sages divided into different sects, it was to lower Hongjun's guard. To make Hongjun believe that during the Deification War, the three would even incite each other’s sects to fight and kill one another.
Hundreds of years ago, when lifeforms in the Mortal World once again developed to a peak level, several major Sages launched their final assault on Hongjun. They found through several great calamities that every time lifeforms reached their most prosperous state was also the weakest point for Hongjun.
Xiao Yu deduced from his timeline analysis that this world-shattering calamity was caused by that event, but its outcome could only be known once Xiao Yu entered the realm of cultivation.
Currently, however, the realm of cultivation had been completely sealed off. Over these years, people from major sects had wanted to enter the realm but failed to find an entry point as it seemed like all previous entrances had vanished.
Besides entering through those entrances, there was another way: using a world stone (界石).
Even Sages did not know about the origin of the world stones. They only knew that they came from Chaos. Zhong Kui also hadn't seen one but had heard some rumors. It was said that world stones could traverse the Three Realms, and according to legend, Ghost Gate was a Sage’s success in refining a world stone. After being refined by a Sage, this particular world stone only sensed ghostly existences; thus, it was useless for Xiao Yu.
Though that world stone was useless, detailed descriptions of these unknown items were recorded on the jade slips left by the three Sages. They had asked Hongjun about them, but even he didn't know their origins. Therefore, they documented and preserved their appearances and auras because they had a premonition that anything unknown to Hongjun might pose a threat.
Upon recognizing the appearance and aura of a world stone, Xiao Yu suddenly recalled the familiar aura he encountered in Zhonghai City God Temple. It was familiar because during his time as Zhong Kui, he saw in Hell's Yama Hall what Yamas called "the total hub of the underworld" —a rock that resembled one seen in the city god statue at the temple. Now seeing the Sages' description, Xiao Yu realized that the total hub of the underworld should be the world stone refined into a magical artifact by a Sage, while the real world stone was likely what he saw in the City God Temple. However, where this actual world stone came from remained unknown to Xiao Yu.
Xiao Yu rode his sword like a bolt of lightning toward Zhonghai City. Fortunately, he had some medicinal pills left by True Person Fiery Flame, so he didn’t worry about consumption. The Foundation Establishment stage medicines left behind by True Man Fiery Flame were perfectly suitable for him to take.
After flying non-stop for two hours, Xiao Yu finally arrived at Zhonghai City. (To be continued...)tanding up for justice. He even called upon all students to learn from her. This second announcement left everyone stunned; not only the students but also teachers and department heads were bewildered....
