Qi Lin originally thought that something like what happens in TV dramas—sordid struggles for power or mutual betrayals—would occur when she got here. Today, Qi Lin found some wood from the old man in the firewood shed and some stationery items as well. While she was carefully designing something, the door was pushed open and Qiao'er walked in with drooping shoulders. However, she was startled by the scene before her eyes. The room was already small to begin with, but it had been occupied by various sizes of timber. Qi Lin was hammering away at a wooden barrel, which looked like quite an enormous project. Qiao'er went over puzzled and asked curiously when she saw what seemed neither a barrel nor anything familiar: "Ah Xue Sister, what is this thing"

"A washing machine." Qi Lin said without thinking it through. Then, remembering that Qiao'er didn’t understand, she explained further, "It’s something convenient to wash clothes with. You’ll know more about it in a moment."

Qiao'er still did not grasp the concept but found it sounded interesting nevertheless. She started helping Qi Lin pass wooden blocks and hammer away as well. The girls next door were woken up by all the noise and came over to take a look, yet they couldn’t make out what was going on. They could only stare blankly.

This project wasn't completed until after the second update period. By then, those who had come to see the commotion had already gone back. Qi Lin stretched her arms and put a piece of clothing over Qiao'er’s shoulders. Looking at the “washing machine” that was now finished, she felt immensely proud. She could not bear washing clothes for several days straight anymore, so she decided to make one herself.

The next day, Qi Lin broke her own record by getting up early. A wooden basin was already filled with clothes; they needed to wash more than ten basins of clothes every day. Women’s clothing was still bearable, but men's clothes were dirty and difficult to clean. However, today, Qi Lin didn’t wake up Qiaoer. She took out the washing machine she had made herself, filled it with water, put all the clothes in, and found some natural laundry detergent by the water source, which she threw into the washing machine as well. Holding onto the handle beside her, she started turning it.

As the clothes spun around, Qi Lin sat leisurely to one side, making things much easier this way. Quite a few curious people came over during this time and were very interested in Qi Lin’s invention. When Qiaoer pushed through the crowd to come over, she was also attracted by Qi Lin's new contraption.

“Wow, Miss Ashue, what is this thing Can it really clean clothes” Qiaoer’s question reflected the thoughts of those watching her and they were all waiting for Qi Lin’s answer.

Qi Lin smiled slightly and took out the clothes from inside the washing machine, tossing them into a wooden basin. She then put in the last remaining clothes and changed the water to clean it up before saying, "Why don’t you check for yourself"

Upon hearing this, everyone curiously picked up the clothes to examine them and found that they were indeed clean. There was even a floral scent, suggesting that some petals had been added during washing. For a moment, everyone praised Qilin's invention.

"It seems that this girl is quite innovative." The madam put down her tea cup and, after listening to Xiao Si's report, she became somewhat interested in the girl named A Xue. This certainly made things easier for her. "You may go now; I'll take a look at it another day."

Ever since the invention of the washing machine, Qilin’s workload was halved and her efficiency doubled.
