Midnight, almost every household was asleep except for the Drunken Flower Pavilion which was still packed with people. For the 151 reading website, I have only one thing to say—update speed is n times faster than other sites and there are fewer ads. It seems that everyone here has boundless energy and never feels tired; the girls who attract customers change shifts repeatedly while the maids in the front hall are almost exhausted. However, this quiet courtyard at the back isn't affected.
Of course, it's not impossible for people to be unable to sleep. Actually, they aren’t trying to stay awake intentionally but rather because they can’t fall asleep.
Qi Lin wrapped herself in an outer coat and quietly pushed open the door, stepping into the courtyard. A cold breeze blew towards her face, making Qi Lin even more alert. Pulling the collar up a little bit, Qi Lin walked out of the door with her head lowered, carefully closing it behind her. Looking up at the bright moon reflected on the water surface, transforming it into a silver mirror, creating quite a dreamlike scene. Qi Lin stretched and walked over, dipping her hand in the water, feeling its icy chill instantly stimulating her brain, making her shiver.
Ooh, recalling the days when she stayed up late into the night under the glow of a lamp, sipping coffee to finish her plan documents, filled with frustration but unable to express it. She had long wished to discard everything and try out an easy-going life. Yet, she never imagined that this wish would come true in another world after her "death." However, it was too surreal for her to sleep at night; she ended up getting up absurdly late at night just to play with water here, acting like a fool.
It's as if drinking an extra strong bitter coffee before sleeping is the only thing that prevents one from falling asleep when everything gets quiet in the dead of night. Such foolishness was something only she would do, hence her being called a workaholic (fighter plane).
Only she knew what foolish things she had done.
"Ah..." Qi Lin stretched and felt refreshed. Taking a deep breath, although it was cold air devoid of any modern chemical smell, it was naturally refreshing, making her feel very comfortable indeed.
Zi Lin looked around. She had hardly ever stepped out of this courtyard; she only heard about what was happening outside from the maids who brought her clothes. They were mostly some trivial gossip, which didn’t interest her.
In fact, it wasn’t that she couldn’t leave—it was just that she didn’t want to. She knew how complex and complicated the world beyond this courtyard would be. The Drunken Flower Pavilion was frequented by high-ranking officials, nobles, wealthy merchants, and young masters from affluent families day in and day out. This place was like a microcosm of society, glossy on the surface but dark underneath. The scheming among the courtesans and the competition and backstabbing between maids were commonplace—nothing new to her.
But she adored this courtyard’s simplicity. She only occasionally worried about Little White now, though there was no news of him at all. No information had reached her regarding White Tiger Mountain, which was the only thing she knew when she first arrived here. The mountain where she had taken shelter before was called both White Tiger Mountain and Gray Wolf Mountain.
But since waking up, she hadn’t heard a word about White Tiger Mountain again, nor did she make any effort to seek out information.
Just as Qi Lin was in deep thought, some faint lights suddenly appeared before her eyes. Upon closer inspection, they turned out to be fireflies—fireflies! She had only seen them on TV before; she never expected to see them here. Wait a minute, isn’t it winter now Why are there any
I don't know and I don't want to know. Oh my god, fireflies! To actually see fireflies! Qi Lin was so excited that she almost jumped up from her seat. She covered her mouth to suppress the urge to scream in excitement. She thanked heaven profusely for the sight of fireflies on the water's surface.
"La la la la, the wind blows," Qi Lin couldn't help singing along, completely oblivious to how grating her voice sounded.
With the wind blowing and fireflies fluttering around her, Qi Lin sang with great enthusiasm since no one could hear her. Hahaha! If anyone had heard her, wouldn’t that mean her secret of not going karaoke for a hundred years would be exposedproach and immediately put on a radiant smile, respectfully saying, "Sir looks prosperous and blessed."Qilin smiled slightly but didn't acknowledge the waiter, instead walking straight in. On the firs...
